Toy
Run and Trail Ride
The Dakota Territory Cruisers
met for our annual Toy run to the Black Hills Children’s Home. Those that
showed up for the days festivities were; Mike and Mikala Heitland, Rayland and
Korbin Bender, Rhonda and Joe Mumm, Kent Renaud, Jeff Mars, Charlie Rupp, Caleb
Rupp, Adam Mclain, Kirk Gisi, Harry Johnston, also along were Matt Hennies and
another member of the Black Hills Jeeps.
It was nice to see past DTC
member (Wild Bill) Colson; Bill is the executive director of the Children’s
home. He gave us a nice tour of the Children’s home it was very informative,
and a pleasure to see this great facility up close and to learn of all the
wonderful things they do out there. After our wonderful tour, it was time to
plan the rest of the day. Unfortunately for me, Joe’s car developed a brake
problem the night before. So Joe and I headed back to town to see about the
availability of brake master cylinders. Too bad it wasn’t a Toyota Land
Cruiser, I could have had him up and stopping in no time, but alas, it is a
Mazda.
The rest of the gang then made
the decision to make a tour of the Railroad Buttes area near Farmingdale. From
the wonderful pictures I received it looked like it was a fantastic day.
On January 1st, a
couple of us DTC members decided to welcome in the New Year with an unofficial
trail ride out to Farmingdale. Greg and Rhonda Mumm in Tigger, were joined by
Jim, Donna, colt and Cody Kinsella in their 80, Mike and Mikala Heitland with a
little friend in Mike’s 4-Runner, and Jarod Chilstrom and friend, both
relatively new high school wheelers in Jarod’s early model Bronco.
This was my first trip into the
Farmingdale area, and I can definitely see the draw that the area has. It has
been a while since we’ve been able to wheel in the Badlands; Farmingdale gives
you a lot of the same type challenge, steep hills, off cambers and knarly
twists. We had an all around goof time out there on New Years Day, and it is a
great way to start out the year.
