"... Now I Gotta Do Something"

Things are developing around establishing a trail system. As I move around making presentations to various organizations, I’m finding an overwhelming majority of people who believe this needs to happen. Funny though, it isn’t necessarily that they want to see this happen, it is more they believe it needs to happen. I had one fellow at a meeting with the Off-Road Riders tell me this very thing and when I asked him why he felt that way, he gave me the following answer:
"It would be easier for me if things could just stay the way they are because then I really wouldn’t have to do anything more than what I am doing now. I don’t have to think about it and I haven’t done anything about anything. Unfortunately, that’s kind of why we need to do this. Everyone has been doing that… nothing. Well, not everyone, a few of you stay pretty busy with this and I’m not talking about those people. I just mean the majority of us out here. We haven’t really had to do much and we haven’t. Because of that, here we are at the crossroads where we either do something or lose something.
Either way, that means now I gotta do something. Problem is, I’m not sure what to do. I want to do something but I’m not sure what to do. You come out here and tell us what you guys are pushing for and why and much as I might not like it, I know you’re right and this has to happen. But, you need to tell guys like me what we need to do now."
To that, here is what I have to say: He is as right as the rain we need so bad!
But here is the deal: In the course of the next two months I have 10 different meetings scheduled to either give presentations or to take part in some sort of planning. I am still at the stage of telling groups collectively what we are working toward and trying to garner their support for the Conceptual Trail System. We are also still at the infantile stages of planning a course of action with the Forest Service. That means, I’m not sure I can tell an individual what they need to be doing right now at a personal level. But, I also know that time is fast approaching where individually we need to start taking ownership of our individual parts in this process.
The biggest help I could use right now, is someone to step forward who has some administrative skill to help me behind the scenes. You don’t have to do the public presentations (unless you want to) I can do that. What I need is someone to come alongside me in the process, help gather and organize information, help me make contacts and set up meetings, help me answer questions after I’ve given the basic premise to the group and most importantly, be another mind to team with me along these all important first steps. Are you that person? Are you ready to toss your hat in my ring?
If you are… call me…
