The Ford saga continues ...

by Greg Mumm

... and I can no longer keep my mouth shut. In recent adds by the Ford Motor Company entitled: "Project tips that are built Ford tough", Ford Motor Company has done it again. For no reason at all, Ford actively promotes the use of steel and concrete and shamelessly misrepresent the use of wood in the commercial. Now, I don’t happen to think there is anything wrong with using concrete and steel nor, is there any reason not to use wood either but Ford’s commercial would have you think otherwise and just adds fuel to the fire. Instead of getting into the fight with the rest of us and trying to preserve our rights, they turn tail and run at the first sign of a struggle. Built Ford wussy I’d say.

In another recent commercial, you see a Ford truck running through the Baja at top speed jumping whoopees and throwing a dust plume a mile long all the while touting the virtues of Ford. In other commercials they claim to be "Outfitter of the World" while showing you all the wonderful places in the wild open spaces they can take you if you buy one of their SUVs. Then there is that other commercial with the guy digging the fence poles and talking about real men don’t watch girl movies crap. Yah right…like we don’t know that wimp is an actor who had to take the Ford commercial to tide him over until he can actually get a role in a real movie. And like I don’t know they are insinuating I wouldn’t like the same movies my wife likes if I were a real man.

All of this to target an audience to buy their 4WD trucks and SUVs and then behind the scenes the real truth is coming out. For one, I can show you where Ford has donated millions and millions of dollars to environmental organizations that are using the money to close off access to public lands. I can also show you where huge Ford grants have supported cutting off logging and ranching.

Why??? What is their point??? What kind of idiots are they??? When confronted with this, Ford justifies their bribe money with public statements that essentially say they aren’t really doing that. Or some other lie to the effect that they only support organizations that have everyone’s best interests in mind! Thy have researched it and know this! They encourage you to apply for grants with them for environmental purposes. Well guess what? Blue Ribbon Coalition did apply and got turned down.

When confronted with an angry western United States that starts to actively promote not buying Ford products, Ford Motor Company cries foul and tries to hide behind the claim it is the Ford Foundation and not Ford Motor Company doing this. Give me a break! Young Ford is an environist through and through and the money for the Ford Foundation comes from the Ford Motor Company. Now they think we are stupid to boot!

Well, I don’t know about you but as far as I am concerned, they can take their Baja truck and keep trying all they want to catch that Toyota of Ironman’s. You know the one… It’s that TOYOTA that keeps beating them to the finish line. And, if they are dumb enough to think they can give millions to the very people trying to cut off their market and then keep trying to work that market, I certainly don’t think they are smart enough to build a truck that is capable of pulling around my Cruiser. I would encourage you to reconsider your next vehicle purchase and rule out a Ford of any kind.
